Gucci Memoria

At the Chiostri di San Simpliciano, Gucci Memoria unfolds as a multi-layered experience that engages more than one sense at once. Conceived by Demna for Fuorisalone 2026, the installation brings together different atmospheres, materials, and registers, overlapping them into a broader portrait of a maison that has moved through distinct creative phases while remaining held together by the idea of memory.

The first element visitors encounter is a custom vending machine, whose clean black surface andsharp geometry introduce a technological register. Dispensing canned drinks labelled with namessuch as Fashion Icon, Drama Queen, Super Incazzata and Mega Pesantone, the machine assignseach visitor a different character inspired by La Famiglia, Demna’s debut collection for the maison. From there, the installation opens into a very different environment. Crossing a corridor, visitorsare suddenly led into a colourful botanical garden framed by a sequence of twelve tapestriestracing Gucci’s history across time.

The house’s unmistakable Flora motif, together with the woven appearances of emblematicfigures and objects from its past, gives shape to an opulent cloister in clear contrast with theprevious one, where the dark, imposing vending machine stands at the centre of the space anddominates it. What makes Gucci Memoria work is precisely this movement between contrastingworlds. Technology and nature, interaction and narration, decorative excess and formal control allremain distinct, yet held in dialogue. Rather than presenting Gucci’s history as afixed heritagedisplay, the exhibition stages it as something layered and still in motion, shaped as much by whatis remembered as by the way memory is continually restaged.
