Pierpaolo Piccioli is the man behind one of today’s most popular brands, Valentino. Over the past six years, he’s been on a mission to search for beauty and, of course, fight to protect it, just like the founder of the Roman luxury brand, Mr. Valentino Garavani, did before him. Needless to say, Pierpaolo is one of the creatives who inspired us to dedicate The Greatest #22 to the concept of ‘protection’. In his words, ‘Although the tradition of ‘bottega dell’arte’ (in English ‘art workshop’, E.D.) was born right here, people have forgotten how important workshops are to share an experience and, of course, learn the trade […] We founded a school to guarantee a future for haute couture, basing it on the exchange between young and older people who’ve worked with us for a very long time. By the way, a lady who’s retired told me that going back to the atelier to teach young minds gave meaning to her path, and I find this amazing both on a human and personal level’.
